| Mark your calendars for October 10th & 11th, 2009. All your favorite artists will be gathered in Ocean View Beach Park, Norfolk, VA, for the 47th Annual Ocean View Art Show. Artists from all over the Hampton Roads area,and from all around the Mid-Atlantic area will be participating. Plan on spending the day strolling among the artist's displays. There will be painters, sculptors, potters, photographers, jewelers, wood carvers, and many more varieties of artwork, all created by the artists at the show. If you are an artist, or an art lover, join us for a two great days in the park at Ocean View, 100 Ocean View Avenue, Norfolk, VA The Chesapeake Bay Art Association sponsors this show every year and it is largest and oldest artist run show in Hampton Roads, possibly all of Virginia. The organization's members work all year to put on this show for the artists and art lovers of the area. You may remember the show as being in the summer's heat of mid-August. Two years ago the Association moved it from August to the second week of October, so that everyone could enjoy the nice fall weather. In addition to the many artists on display, there will be entertainment for the whole family, food vendors, and much more. Proceeds from the show benefit the John B.Tenney Memorial Scholarship Fund. Each year the Chesapeake Bay Art Association gives away Art Scholarships to local high school students that have been accepted into college to study Art. This year the proceeds from the Ocean View Show were enough to award two scholarships to area students. The recipients in 2009 were Chelsea Swift from Hickory High School and Amanda Hitchcock from Princess Anne High School. The Chesapeake Bay Art Association (CBAA) was founded in 1961 by a group of artists living in the Ocean View and Willoughby sections of Norfolk, Virginia. The first outdoor show was held in Ocean View one year later, and has continued every year since then. Since it's inception, the CBAA has been offering a scholarship to a local high school graduate to aide in continuing their art studies. Charter Member John B. Tenney began the fund raising by donating one of his paintings for an auction. After his death in 1989, the organization renamed the fund, The John B. Tenney Memorial Scholarship, in his honor.
